It looks like Google TV could be coming to the UK within the next six months according to the Telegraph. The service will access content from UK providers like BBC iPlayer and Channel 4 and will be delivered via Google TV boxes which I am guessing will by like the Logictech Revue. Google TV hasn’t taken off yet in US so I am not sure how popular it would be over here, using IR Blasters to get content from set top boxes is a really step backwards and I can’t see premium content providers like Sky working with Google. At least Google are sticking with Google TV and not dropping a product after a few weeks of poor sales!

The “Google TV” innovation will also mean that viewers can watch material from catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player on their main TV screen.

Accessed through a special set-top box, the service is due to launch in the UK within six months, following its launch earlier in the US.

Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt will outline the plans when he gives this year’s MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival.
