DVBLogic are currently working hard to get a beta of DVBLink V4 out the door. Whilst Oberon is saying on the forums that it will be ready when its ready I have a feeling it won’t be long now. So what will it feature. Well we do not know much but Oberon has dropped a couple of hints in the forums. Firstly we have already covered the rumoured Embedded server http://www.dvblogic.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=11919 and now Oberon has dropped a couple of hints in the forums.

  • Tuner Limit Removed
  • Tuners based on PBDA standard

I’m not sure how either of these will play out but the Tuner Limit removal is good news. The PBDA use is interesting. PBDA is Microsoft’s protected version of the standard driver for tuners – it was designed to make it easier for tuner manufacturers to produce device drivers regardless of the broadcasxt standard in use and to allow encryption of broadcast content. Using this may open up the ability for DVBLogic to create other tuner types in Media Center and also transmit content from some tuner types they cannot currently work with.

Looks like July (or maybe August) could be an exciting month.

  1. I’m hoping that they sort out performance problems when decoding Sky HD channels, anything else will just a bonus in my eyes 😉

    1. Difficult to say – Read my next post and see what you think. It is likely there will be an upgrade cost to the new version but DVBLogic have been pretty reasonable in the past so they may do a deal for recent purchases. I would email them and ask the question.

      1. Hmm, I think the September release date decides it for me. I do like that the dlna and web servers are split into seperate packages though.

        Thanks for all the info.
