In previous shows we have looked at Windows Phone 7 from an end users perspective and talked to Will Coleman (a Product Manager from Microsoft) who gave us his views of developing on the new OS. This week I was offered the oppertunity to sit down and chat with the developers of Birdsong, a twitter client for Windows Phone 7, to get the views of people writing one of the applications.  Obviously the news from HP on webOS couldn’t be overlooked so we decided to record two shows for you this week.

It was great to talk to both David Wynne and Stuart Harris of Red Badger and get their views and experience of developing for Windows Phone 7 and we cover topics ranging from why they decided to develop for the OS, following the Metro UI principles, seemless integration, certification and even paid vs free application models.  David and Stuart were also able to talk first hand about the certification process, adhering to the developer guidelines, and the dissapointment of getting an application rejected.  We also talked about the development community which sounds really supportive with other members offering to help beta test their application.

I really appreciate them giving their time and enjoyed hearing their experience as device owner so I hope any developers out there thinking of writing applications for Windows Phone 7 will find the information useful too.  I’ve included details below for anyone wanting to contact them directly.

If anyone developing on Android or iOS would like to get in touch perhaps we can arrange to get you on a future show.  I know it would be great to discuss Android app development and how the potential fragmentation of the platform affects development. Also, don’t forget to contact the show with any news, views, comments or questions – all the details you’ll need are below!

  1. Are ther plans to make this podcast available through Zune at all?

That would be great for my WP7 mobile 🙂

Forgive me if it’s already there and the slightly iffy MS Marketplace search is causing (slightly ironic) issues!
