It’s all happening in the world of DVBLink today. Fresh on the tail of DVBLogic’s announcements the good folks over at 1Geek1Tool have made a couple of announcements of their own – one of which, whilst it doesn’t actually offer a solution,  is very significant for those people waiting for a way of getting their Hauppauge HDPVR to work with the DVBLink Network Pack.

On to the first announcement:

DVBLink for HDPVR v2.1  – I’ve noted the confusing numbering here before. This is the version number of the HDPVR source not the version of DVBLink it works with. The release of DVBLink for HPVR that actually works with DVBLink V2 is likely to be called V3 – yes it is confusing.

This most significant thing this new version introduces is changes to the registration process of which more later.

This new version also introduces small modifications or improvements:

  • MceIr: Modify the learning to learn a more accurate code sequence.
  • MceIr: Modify the format of the IR files when learning, now stored as ASCII. Old IR files can still be read for blasting.
  • MceIr: Fix the cancellation of the learning dialog.
  • Fix the TEST button in the configuration tool.
  • Fixed the links to local folders in the configuration tool.

Good to see the TEST button being fixed.

Now onto the significant announcement. Many people assume all DVBLink products are produced and developed by DVBLogic. This is not the case DVBLogic provide an SDK to third-parties to allow development of other sources for DVBLink. One of these third parties are 1Geek1Tool and DVBLink for HDPVR is produced by them not DVBLogic (although it is based on DVBLogic’s core technologies). One thing which has encouraged this confusion is, up to now, all products have been sold through DVBLogic’s site.

For some time now 1Geek1Tool and DVBLogic have been negotiating behind the scenes over new licensing and retail methods. Included in these talks has been the licensing position for 1Geek1Tool to use the SDK for the new DVBLink 2 architecture – including the Network Pack. Those negotiations have now concluded and 1Geek1Tool will be receiving very shortly the new SDK which hopefully means a new version is not too far away.

One other result of all this is that 1Geek1Tool are taking over distribution and licensing of the DVBLink for HDPVR product. I am not totally sure of my view on this. On one hand it does mean that 1Geek1Tool have complete control of their licensing and can answer queries a lot quicker but on the other it means that consumers will probably end up needing to purchase two products from different sources to build a networked system. Whichever way you look at it the good news has to be that negotiations were succesful and this excellent product can now be brought into the network tuner architecture.

Anyway on to the second announcement (which I have quoted directly form 1Geek1Tool):

We are introducing a new way to distribute and sell DVBLink for HDPVR licenses. We are now selling them directly from 1geek1tool.com and no longer through ShareIt! or/and Dvblogic channels. This change is now in place at the time of this post.

This new approach will allow much more flexibility in the way we distribute licenses:

  • One important thing that was missing was the ability to extend a trial period for users who encountered problems during setup and were not able to get a stable system withing the trial period. We will now be able to do this.
  • We are also fully automating the licenses generation. This will accelerate a lot the registration.

This also means that we are again changing the registration mechanism and the way license keys are generated, hopefully for the last time:

  • Previously generated keys won’t work anymore for future versions of the products.
  • Also, license keys for previous versions will no longer be generated.

That means that if you have a Trial version running, you must update to the latest version before you can buy and activate the product.

If you have a registered version running, you can continue using the version you have. However, if you reinstall your system or upgrade your version you must re-register your software. All the previously existing licenses were automatically imported in the new system. All you have to do is use the email you used for registering your original license and you are good to go.

We are sorry for the inconveniences this might cause you, but we sincerely think these changes are for the best.
