Take a look at my “new” portable Media Center Extender, an old Samsung Q1. Regular readers will remember I got the original QIMG_16291 a couple of years ago and when I put Vista on it it rendered the device almost useless due to it running so slow. The first Windows 7 Beta  gave it a new lease of live due to how snappy it worked but I could never get the sound working. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 RC on the Q1 and found an updated driver download page on Samsung’s web site, so I installed the drivers and to my amazement the sound worked. With the beta no matter what I did I couldn’t get the sound working but now it works great.

I joined the my home group and now I have a small Media Center Extender, that can stream reordered TV and I can copy the content to it if I want to take the unit out.  Using the HD Homerun tuner I could have live TV on it to, so that is my music, video, pictures and TV anywhere around the home with the Q1

  1. Nice. Now you don’t have to pause live tv when you go to the bathroom 🙂 I wonder why UMPC disapeered, they were really cool.
