I thought I would give the new Media Center Sideshow gadgets a try on my test machine and it looks like the TV Pack version number issue has hit again. So far I have tried it on a 32bit version of Vista with TV Pack and the installer fails when it checks Media Center’s version number. It’s a shame it wasn’t tested on a TV Pack version of Media Center,I guess there are not supposed to be that many installs of TV Pack but it seems to me like there a lot of people are searching for the update and installing it.
UPDATE: Thanks to Richard Miller for the tip:
To get the Media Center Sideshow gadget working on TV Pack you can change a setting in the registry, edit the registry at your own risk!
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center
- Change the Ident version to 5.0 from 5.1
- Run the Sideshow install
- Change the Ident value back to 5.1
Warning, users are reporting some of the gadgets don’t work well with TV Pack and that maybe why the version is checked
Yeah that is a real shame come on MS sort it out please!
MS, that sucks!!!!
Did anyone try changing the “Ident” number in the registry? see if sideshow installs then.
I will give it a try in the morning
Richard thanks great tip!
Thanks Richard and Ian!
Does this also work with an extender/session?
