Sharing files, links and pictures between Windows 11 and Windows 10 PCs that are close by is simple. Using Nearby Share, you can share files between devices without having to setup a network or using Bluetooth. So, no more email links or pictures, you can do it with just a couple of clicks.

Turning on Nearby Share

To turn on Nearby Share go to Settings, System, Nearby Share.

In the setting you have three options.

  • Off
  • My Devices Only
  • Everyone nearby

Off turns off the feature completely, My Devices Only makes sharing only work with devices signed in with the same Microsoft account. Everyone nearby works for all devices nearby.

Sharing files with Nearby Share

To share a local file right click on the file you want to share and click on the Share icon.

You will then be able to pick nearby devices, click on the device name and then on the other PC you can accept or reject the file.

If you are sharing a OneDrive shared file, you get a different screen, so you click on the middle three dots to use Nearby Share. This shares a link to the file rather than the actual file.
