Microsoft have finally announced that tabs are coming to File Explorer in Windows 11. At today’s Hybrid Work event Microsoft’s Panos Panay announce new features coming to Windows 11 and the one that most consumers are looking forward to is a tabbed File Explorer and redesigned home page.

A couple of years ago Microsoft briefly tested Sets in Windows 10 which enable any application to be a tab in Explorer, in this case its just new File Explorer windows that can be tabbed but it’s a welcome new feature to the OS.

Also announced and has been in test with Windows Explorer for the last few weeks are a new home page in Explorer. This features favourites and recent files across the local file system, OneDrive and Sharepoint.

Windows Insiders should be able to test out the new tabbed File Explorer soon.
