Last week Microsoft added Android app support for Window 11 via the Windows Subsystem for Android. The new feature is available for Windows Insiders on the beta channel and I thought I would show how well it works (scroll down for the video)
The feature is US only so I had to change my region settings to US to be install the subsystem, the Windows Subsystem for Android is available in the Microsoft Store. As I don’t have US Amazon account I couldn’t try out the Amazon app store so instead I sideloaded some apps. I used a tool called TinyADB which enabled me to install Android apps via APK files.
With the TinyADB tool installed. I connected to the subsystem via the IP address in WSA settings and installed the apps via the command line.
In the video I try out Philips Hue, Arlo and show how to install an app like Sonos for Android on Windows 11. As you can see in the video Android apps work well on Windows 11, I am using a Surface Laptop 2 and the apps are responsive, work with touch and pretty much feel like regular Windows apps.
