Microsoft have announced that Windows 11 will be available October 5th. The free upgrade will be available to compatible Windows devices via Windows Update and ship with new PCs. Microsoft will phase in the release via Windows update so the latest devices will be offered the update first and then Microsoft will add more devices over time, with their aim to have all compatible machines offered the upgrade by mid-2022. Windows Update will let you know when the upgrade is available for your machine.

Microsoft have released a test version of the PC checker tool that checks to see if your PC can run Windows 11. At the moment its for Windows Insiders and you can follow my step-by-step guide on how to see if your PC runs Windows 11.

Windows 11 has been available for Windows Insiders since July and have a new modern look, a new start menu, new action centre and widgets. One of the features announced but not yet shipped to Windows Insiders to test is Android app support, there is no mention of it in Microsoft’s announcement, so it looks like that isn’t going to ship October 5th. Hopefully Windows Insiders will get to test this feature soon.
