After spending time getting Windows 11 running on a Raspberry Pi I thought I would look at my old Lumia 950XL on it next. In the past I managed to get Windows 10 and Windows 10X running the Lumia 950XL, and thanks the brilliant work done at the Lumia WOA project I was able get Windows 11 on the device.

The Lumia WOA project enables you to install ARM version of Windows 10 or Windows 11 on to the Lumia 950XL. They have a great set of guides and tools to enable you install the full desktop version of Windows on the phone and they have even added in Dialer app so you can use it as a phone.

While the phone is sluggish and gets pretty warm, most things work well. Wifi works, Bluetooth and mobile data works. You can use Microsoft Edge, the built-in apps and any apps you can get from the Microsoft Store. As it’s running the full version of Windows and not a mobile version you can full access to the file system and the OS.The Lumia 950XL runs the ARM version of Windows 11 so you can run ARM, ARM64 and Win32 applications on it.

The project is not supported in anyway by Microsoft and you could potentially brick your phone, it is certainly not designed for production but it you have a Lumia 950XL gathering dust somewhere you can give it a new lease of life.
