Microsoft are getting ready for the release of the next update to Windows 10 called the Windows 10 May 2021 Update, also known as 21H1. The final build is 19043.928 release a couple of week’s ago to Windows Insiders. Windows Insiders are actually on a new version of (19043.964) which was released yesterday and includes just the one fix:

  • We fixed an issue causing a 0xC2 (BAD_POOL_CALLER) bugcheck when using IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT.

The update will first be offered to Windows Insiders on the Beta and Release Preview rings via an optional update and the updated via Windows Update. In the post on the Windows Insider blog Microsoft don’t actually say when the update will be released but given it’s name its likely to be the next Patch Tuesday which is 11th May.

The 21H1 update / May 2021 Update is a small minor update that installs as a patch and not a full build.

Here is what’s new in the Windows 10 May 2021 Update

  • Windows Hello multicamera support to set the default as the external camera when both external and internal Windows Hello cameras are present.
  • Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements including optimizing document opening scenario times.
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updating performance improvement to support remote work scenarios.
