Once again Windows Mixed Reality usage on the monthly steam survey has dropped. In October usage was at 5.2% from a peak of 11.13% at the beginning of this year. Zero marketing from Microsoft and very late availability of new headsets are probably contributing to the drop. In the last few months the Rift S has overtaken Windows Mixed Reality and is now at 13.7%.

Long-term Microsoft fans will have seen the story before. Microsoft launches an exciting new product, it gains some traction and then Microsoft seems to give up and the platform dies a slow death. Maybe Microsoft will surprise us with something new but I doubt it. The good news is that WMR works great with SteamVR so existing users have a large collection of apps and games available.

As I have said before the Steam Survey doesn’t seem to be that scientific, I have never seen the survey pop up on my VR machine.
