Microsoft have made the first beta of its Chromium based Microsoft Edge browser available for testing. The new browser has been available in daily and weekly builds since April but this is the first beta version.

There are versions for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 and macOS. The beta channel is updated every 6 weeks and is the most stable version of the browser. I have been using the daily canary builds and I have been impressed with its performance, stability and memory usage.

You can install it alongside the current version of Microsoft Edge and any of your other browsers. The new browser is based on the open source Chromium project which is also the basis of Google Chrome.

Head over to Microsoft’s Edge site for the downloads.
