With the October 2018 Update for HoloLens Microsoft added the feature to mirror the HoloLens sees to a PC or smart display. The technology used is Miracast and HoloLens uses the same system as Windows 10 PCs use. Miracast streaming works much better than the browser based streaming that HoloLens previously used and it’s really simple to use.

To get this feature you will need the HoloLens October 2018 Update which is currently available for Windows Insiders and is soon to be released to all device.

Let’s say you want to steam the output of your HoloLens to a PC so you can show off what you can see on HoloLens.

On your PC open up the Connect app (click on Start and search for Connect). The app is built into Windows 10 so you don’t have to install it from the Microsoft Store.

This app enables you to receive the output of HoloLens (or a PC).

From your HoloLens bloom to bring up the start menu and then select Connect.

HoloLens will then list nearby devices capable of receiving the stream, one of which should be your PC.

Select your PC and then the HoloLens output should be on the PC display. Miracast uses Wi-Fi direct so both devices do not need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. It works much better than browser based streaming and it is a great way of demonstrating what the HoloLens use is seeing.

Here is my video guide showing how it works:
