The long awaited Cortana and Alexa integration has arrived in the form of a public preview. Amazon today announced that US users will be able to say “Alexa, open Cortana” and then have access to Cortana’s functions and the reverse is possible from Cortana. You will be able to say “Hey Cortana, open Alexa” and that have access to all Alexa’s functions like shopping and hope automation.

Initially this will be only for US customers and it looks like from the Windows side it will only work on Harman Kardon Invoke speakers but it should come to more devices and regions in the future.

This is just the start for Alexa and Cortana, which means features like music, audio books, and flash briefing will not be available immediately. But the experience will continue to improve as we work with Microsoft to add new capabilities and features over time. And because Alexa is always getting smarter, the experience will get better the more you use it.

To begin, Alexa will be available to US customers on Windows 10 devices and Harman Kardon Invoke speakers, and Cortana will be available on Amazon Echo devices like Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, and Echo Spot. We’re working with Microsoft to bring the experience to more customers and devices over time.
