In this video, I take a look the Acer Swift 5. The model I have has an Intel i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD drive. This configuration comes in around £800 and is extremely light so is this a road warrior’s dream machine?

Specs:

  • Intel Core i7
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD
  • Windows 10 Home
  • 1080p touch screen
  • 1.65 Kg

It is light!

The first thing you notice about the Swift 5 is how light it is, it’s lighter than any of my Windows devices and even with its plastic case it feels well made. It has a matt plastic outside with a gold looking hinge and while a metal case makes a laptop feel more premium the plastic case helps with the very low weight of the Swift 5.

Keyboard and trackpad

I found when typing the laptop flexes quite a bit when typing but overall the keyboard is very useable. The trackpad supports multi-touch gestures and responsive.

Screen

The glossy screen is 1920 x 1080 with good colour reproduction and multi-touch support. I know some people do not like glossy screens but I do and I like the sharp display. These days 1920 x 1080 is bit on the low side but in practice on the 14-inch display, I did not miss the higher resolution display.

Windows Mixed Reality

Being a big fan of Windows Mixed Reality I like to check if the device can run WMR. Microsoft have tool for checking if the PC is capable of running Windows Mixed Reality and in the case of the Acer Swift 5 you can just. It will run basic games and apps but not the high end devices.

At just over £800 it is up alongside with the i5 Surface Laptop, Dell XPS and others which make it a very tough decision when purchasing a laptop.

Video

In this video I take a look at build quality, ports, the screen and the keyboard and trackpad. I also take a look at how it performs switching from app to app and I see if it is capable of running Windows Mixed Reality.
