Hive have launched a new home security camera called Hive View. The new home security camera has HD livestreaming, motion sensing and person detection. It can be wall mounted or go on a shelf and it has 130° field of view. Hive have tried to make the camera look more elegant than many of the current smart home security cameras.

The camera has a built-in battery that last an hour and can be set to ignore pets and only report on people. Video of the last 24 hours is available on the Hive app with subscription options for more storage.

The smart home camera market is pretty crowded and there is a lot of competition from the likes of Nest, Arlo and others. However I have noticed that consumers when looking at services like smart home heating system like Hive and Nest also look at the ecosystem of smart devices that come with the system. So a platform needs smart cameras, motion sensors and smart plugs to be competitive, I know people that have been put of Hive’s system due to its old camera being SD card based and not cloud storage.

The new Hive View costs £189 and is available now and you can checkout my review of Hive Heating here.
