Today at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit Microsoft’s Terry Myerson, Windows and Devices Group Executive Vice President unveiled the new ARM powered Windows laptops that provide always connected, instant on and battery life measured in days.

One of the devices is an ASUS NovaGo an Gigabit LTE laptop powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. It’s always on and connected with a battery life of 22 hours and standby of 30 hours. Also shown was a Surface like HP ENVY x2 with up to 20 hours of active use battery life.

The devices are due spring next year and other OEMS are planning to release ARM powered Windows devices. It will be interesting to see if they have the performance to match the battery life, and whether in practice the battery life does really live up to Microsoft’s claims.

I was a big fan of my ARM powered Surface 2, I never took out the charger with me on the road and could write on it all day. Apps was the stumbling block with Windows RT, these new devices comes with Windows 10S so you still need the store apps to be productive but the app situation has improved a lot in the last few years.
