Microsoft have started adding smart home features to Cortana. In Cortana’s notebook there is a new Connected Home setting where you sign in with your Microsoft account and then connect up with smart home services. Currently the servers are Philips Hue, SmartThings, Nest, Insteon and Wink. The option is not showing up all devices, its available on one of my Redstone 4 machines but not on my Creators Update machines.

It looks like Microsoft haven’t enabled actual control over the devices yet, asking Cortana to turn on my lights just does a Bing search but it should be coming soon. It’s great to finally see Microsoft getting started with the smart home.

It’s interesting to the see the app listed as Windows@Home when it connects to Philips Hue.
