Amazon Alexa and router

In a rather surprising announcement Microsoft and Amazon have details plans to have Cortana and Alexa to work together. Microsoft will have a Cortana skill available for Amazon Alexa and Cortana will be able to control Alexa by the end of the year. Initially you will say “Alexa Open Cortana” and then you will be able to interact Cortana with an Amazon Echo or Amazon Dot as you would via a PC. The same goes for Alexa via Cortana you will be able to say “Cortana open Alexa” and then access Alexa skills via a PC.

This partnership brings together the best of both systems. For me Alexa works best controlling systems around the home like smart heating and lighting, whereas Cortana is best for things like scheduling your appointments and controlling your PC.

There are no details on when the Cortana skill will be available and whether it will be available worldwide or just US. It’s a great to see Microsoft and Amazon work together on projects like this, I hope we see more integration projects like this in the future.
