VLC have released a beta of their UWP version of VLC for Windows 10. The app which works on PC or phone (plus Hololens and Xbox One soon) has most of the VLC desktop app you already know like supporting a wide range of video formats and subtitles plus it has a media library for viewing and managing your collection, it has a live tile, supports pinning of albums/artists, it has Cortana and Continuum support. It can open network shares, DLNA/UPnP and URLs so the only thing really missing is DVD and Bluray playback which is platform limitation.

Music support is really good, you can browse your music library and view artists and album information.

I have had a quick play with the app and I really like the smooth and fast user experience working as well on the phone as it does on the PC.

You can find the app in the Windows Store.
