The Groove Music team have released a big update to the Windows 10 Mobile version of the app overnight. There are a lot of changes to the app (Version 3.6.1719.0) all which go towards improving the user experience with the app.

  • The update has much improved labelling of where your music is coming from, so tracks are now labelled as OneDrive, Purchased, Music Pass or Local Only so you can clearly see the content type.
  • You can see the detailed track information by long pressing and then selecting properties.
  • Auto-suggest is back so when you search in the app it prompts for previous searches.
  • You can now have album art in the Now Playing view something I am very glad to see.
  • You can sort albums by release year.
  • Editing playlists is easier as you can now multi-select tracks.
  • On larger devices the art work looks better as they have improved the scaling.
  • There are improvements when using Continuum, playback continues when the screen is locked and the resolution has been improved.
  • Explicit tags show up in the Now Playing view.
  • Bug fixes

The improved content type labels and album art are the two features that are really going to polish the experience. One thing to take note of is that it will re-index your music collection after the update so it may take some time for all your collection to show up.
