Windows 10 Media Creation Tool is back with the November Update included

Over the weekend Microsoft quietly pulled the Windows 10 November updated from the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. This is the tool that enables you to download the Windows 10 ISO and use it to upgrade Windows 10 10240 to the November Update. I used to upgrade with most of my machines as the November Update failed on of them. Without the update being included it means that the tool contained the July 10240 build and you would have to get the November update via Windows Update which I found can be a bit hit and miss.

The good news is that the tool now contains the November Update once again so you can use it to update an RTM version of Windows 10. According to Ed Bott the reason the release was pulled was due to an error migrating some privacy settings which Microsoft are very sensitive about given the unwarranted negatively about the telemetry Windows 10 sends back to Microsoft.

Ed has this statement from Microsoft:

Recently we learned of an issue that could have impacted an extremely small number of people who had already installed Windows 10 and applied the November update. Once these customers installed the November update, a few of their settings preferences may have inadvertently not been retained. For these customers, we will restore their settings over the coming days and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible – it will not impact future installs of the November update, which is available today.

If this is the real reason then Microsoft did the right thing to pull the update, I still wonder if the issue with apps being un-installed by the update may be part of the problem. I noticed that ESET Anti-Virus was removed from one of my machines without warning.
