Microsoft promised us a new build of Windows 10 Mobile and last night they released build 10536 for Windows Insiders. It has been over a month since the last mobile build as various issues have prevented Microsoft releasing builds but we finally have a new release to play with.

The new build comes down in two parts, 10514 and 10536. The the older build is installed first and then it installs build 10536, the whole update process takes some time especially the 2nd part.

This release fixes mobile hotspot, quite hours and two factor authentication bugs introduced in the last release as well as bringing back the Insider Hub and enables updated from Windows Phone 8.1. Changes to the OS included an updated photos app that has a folder view. The phone app also has faster zooming and panning as well as favourites.

Also in the update is one handed mode for all phones, you press and hold on the start button and then the top slides down so you can reach it with one hand. This is designed for larger phones like the 1520 but it’s good to see it available on all phones.

If you are using a Lumia 1020 and use it for taking high quality pictures you may want to wait. To take advantage of the phones 41MP sensor and DNG format you need the Lumia camera app as the Windows camera app doesn’t support them, so you will have to wait for the Lumia camera app to return to the store with Microsoft say will be “later this fall”, wait on Windows Phone 8.1 or loose the features which is very disappointing for 1020 users. Other Lumia phones don’t have this issue but living images no longer work until the Lumia app comes back.

I found the whole upgrade process took hours and judging by the comments I have seen on Twitter I am not the only one!

Look out for a hands on video soon, more details on the Windows blog.
