While playing around with Windows 10 build 10547 I noticed a new menu option in the Edge browser “Cast media to device” and it looks like Microsoft are testing media steaming from the new browser.

When you select the menu option it brings up the Connect dialog box where you can select a compatible media player.

I found that it would only send a picture from the browser to a DLNA renderer on my network (I used Windows Media Player). It appears that the browser scans the page for compatible media and then you can send it to another device. It should work with video, audio and images but I only got it to work with the first image on each web page.

If it can’t find media on the page it displays a message at the bottom of the page:

I hope this is the start of proper media casting of content via Edge, maybe using DIAL format.
