Today Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will be available July 29th
(see my post) and they have also started rolling out the Windows 10 reservation process. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users and starting today if you have an eligible device you will see a Windows flag in your taskbar:

Double click on the icon and then you will be guided through the process, which registers the devices for a Windows 10 upgrade and asks your email (you can skip the email part if you want).

Once completed it will download the update ready for July 29th. The icon only showed up on a couple of my machines of mine which could be down to the devices not meeting the minimum requirements:

Latest OS: Make sure that you are running the latest version, either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.

Don’t know which version you are running? Check here to find out.

Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS

Also watch out if you are a Windows Media Cent users, if you have Media Center the upgrade process will remove it without any way to get it back:

If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro with Media Centre or Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Centre and you install Windows 10, Windows Media Centre will be removed.

If the icon doesn’t show up then head over to Microsoft Answer where there is a long thread about it.
