Last week Microsoft announced they were finally adding Miracast support to the Xbox One. With Miracast support added it means you can share your PC or Phones screen to the TV via the Xbox One, well at least that is the theory.

The app is available now if you are on the Xbox Preview program and labelled “Wireless Display”, I gave it a try with varying results. When I tried it with my Lumia 1520 it worked fine, I projected the screen to the Xbox One and it was relevantly smooth.

I tried it from my Encore 8 running Windows 10 Technical build 10074 which wouldn’t work at all, it could see the Xbox One and it tried to connect but then time out. I also tried it from my Surface Pro 3 running Windows 8.1 and my Nexus 5 running Android 5.1 and neither device would work either. So it looks like there is still a work to be done before the app can go public but it’s good to see Microsoft working on Miracast.
