Amazon’s Fire TV Stick was released in the US last October and today Amazon have announced it will be available in the UK from April 15th. The TV stick is a HDMI dongle that has a range of media apps like BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Demand 5, Plex and Amazon’s own instant video streaming service.

The stick is on sale at £35 and only £7 for new Amazon Prime (£17 for existing) members making it very competitive against Google’s Chromecast which Amazon say the Fire TV Stick has four times the storage and twice the memory of Google’s device. Another nice feature is that it includes a dedicated remote something the Chromecast doesn’t ship with.

Having said that personally I would rather go with Roku’s streaming stick which at £44 has the same range of apps but also it also works with Miracast so you can mirror your phone, PC or Tablet’s display on to the TV (see my review).

I really wish Microsoft would have a budget HDMI stick that you could access Xbox Music and Video as well as Windows 10 apps on it. Maybe with Windows 10 IOT someone could develop this.
