It’s almost a couple of years since the VLC set out on the journey to bring VLC to the Windows Store and Windows Phone, since then we have VLC for Intel Windows devices but not for ARM powered devices. It looks like the release got little closer as the VLC team demonstrated on Twitter.

They now have VLC compiled for ARM processors and have a picture of the app running on a Surface 2 (which is powered by an ARM chip). This paves the way for a Windows Phone version of the app which is just what the platform needs. It not ready just yet, as you can see from the picture there is some video conversion issues still to fix (YUV issues) but it is close and according to one of the developers Thomas Nigro it could be released before the end of the month.

I can’t wait to see VLC for the Surface 2 and Windows Phone, hopefully it won’t be long now.
