There is a new build of Windows 10 available for Windows Insiders. Build 9879 can be installed via Windows Update or by checking for new builds in PC settings.

In the new build you can now hide the Task View and Search buttons which is something many people have asked for. The window restore/minimize animations have been refined which will be interesting to see as the previous builds transitions seemed a little odd to me. The three dot buttons in modern apps has been replaced with a Hamburger style menu button which is supposed to make finding the charms easier .

There are new 3 finger trackpad options:

  • 3 finger up -> Task View
  • 3 finger down -> Show Desktop
  • 3 finger flick to left or right -> switches to previous app (go back 1)
  • 3 finger move left or right -> Alt-Tab (Task View) pops up and you can select the app you want (remove fingers to select)
  • 3 finger tap -> Search

One of the changes are the improvements to OneDrive, you can now have selective syncing of OneDrive files.

[Update – Since writing there post I have had chance to try the update and I hate the way smart linking of OneDrive files has been dropped and now you have to sync a whole folder]

So you have the option to bring down files ahead of accessing them, so you know you have your files available offline. Talking of files, MVK file support has been improved. You can now directly play MKV files in Windows Media Player, thumbnails and metadata are supported as is DLNA and Play To. Also added is support for H.265 and HEVC.

There are also IE improvements and UI enhancements, you can read more about the changes on the Windows Blog. I am downloading the update and am looking forward to testing the new release.
