Apple has announce its new iPad models ready for the Christmas season. As expected the iPads are incremental updates to the current line up with a couple of headline features. The iPad Air 2 is Apple’s thinnest iPad at 6.1mm, it gains Touch ID and a new faster A8X processor. The camera has been updated and is now 8MP, so you are going to get some nice pictures from the iPad (but that won’t stop you looking like a bit of an idiot taking pictures with your giant iPad).

The iPad mini 3 also gains the Touch ID sensor but other than that there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference over the previous versions.

The iPad Air 2 starts at £399 for the 16GB version, £479 for the 64GB version and £559 for the 128GB version. The iPad mini 3 starts at £319 for the 16GB version, £399 for the 64GB version and £479 for the 128GB versions.

If you already have an iPad Air or a iPad mini with retina then there doesn’t seem to be a big incentive to upgrade unless you really want Touch ID but as ever Apple makes great hardware and these new devices continue with that tradition. I am sure they will be big sellers, I will be sticking with my iPad mini 2 for now.
