The developers of the media app doubleTwist accuse Google of crippling SD card support in Android 4.4

DoubleTwist on Android

DoubleTwist is a great all in one media player for Android, it handles music, radio, podcasts and syncs with the desktop version. The developers have of the app have hit out at Google for crippling the functionally of Android 4.4’s SD card support. The developers say that Android media apps can no longer write and delete files in the universal locations like /music or /photos vastly reducing the usefulness of media apps (especially when sharing content between apps). The doubleTwist team say the decision is “regrettable and self-serving”, probably meaning Google are pushing uses to use its own Google Play Music app away from 3rd party apps. The developers ask “Please ask your Android manufacturer to disable Google’s restrictive SD card policy in a future firmware upgrade”

doubleTwist is free and then there are in-app purchases for the pro version and radio streaming. You can find the app in the Google Player Store

What’s New

Google, in their infinite wisdom, made the regrettable and self-serving choice of crippling SD card support for devices running Android 4.4 KitKat. This means that your favorite music player, file manager or photo app can no longer write and delete files in universal folder locations such as /Music or /Photos. Developers are powerless to work around this. Please ask your Android manufacturer to disable Google’s restrictive SD card policy in a future firmware upgrade.
