No news on the status of the VLC for the Windows store just yet but we do have a new version for the Windows desktop and for the Mac. Version 2.1.3 includes new decoder formats (HEVC and VP9) and has audio and video output fixes.
VLC player is an excellent video and music player and will play almost any video format. Get the Windows and Mac version from videolan.org
