Last month Microsoft announced the new name for SkyDrive and on the OneDrive blog Microsoft have announced that the service has gone live today. The renamed apps should start showing up in respective stores this morning and there are now some news ways to get additional storage. You can get up to 5GB extra storage by inviting friends to join the service (500MB per friend) and you get 3GB for using the camera backup feature.

The OneDrive app will be available for iPhone, Android, Windows, Windows Phone and the Xbox. For the last few years I have been using Dropbox but the cross platform features and the integration with Windows mean I am using SkyDrive OneDrive more and more.

Today we are thrilled to announce the global availability of OneDrive. For our existing SkyDrive customers, you are all set; your files are ready in the new OneDrive experience. All you have to do is head over to www.OneDrive.com and log in. For those of you hearing about the service for the first time, OneDrive gives you one place for all of your files, including photos, videos, and documents, and it’s available across the devices you use every day.
