The BBC have updated dedicated radio iPlayer app for iOS bringing in optimisations for iOS 7. The app has a new iOS 7 design and better support for the iPhone 5c, simpler browsing of on-demand programmes and performance enhancements. Unfortunately the app is still iPhone only so you have to use the x2 button on an iPad which is a shame but the app is good for listening to radio shows on the go via WiFi, 3G or 4G. You can stream audio via AirPlay or Bluetooth and use it as an alarm so you can wake to live radio. The other missing feature is the downloading of radio shows for offline listening, the BBC Trust approved the feature earlier this year but it has not been implemented yet.

The app is free from the iTunes Store.

What’s New in Version 1.4.0

– Beautiful new streamlined iOS 7 design
– Better support for larger, 5th gen screens
– Many code optimisations for iOS 7
– Simpler browsing of on-demand programmes
– ‘Under-the-hood’ performance enhancements
