Microsoft may have had $900 million of unsold Surface RTs but they are bullish about the 2nd gen devices. In a post on the Surface Blog Brian Hall General Manager of the Surface team said that sales of the Surface 2 (64GB) and Surface Pro 2 (256 GB and 512GB) are close to selling out in the US and that the some of the type and touch covers are now sold out. What Microsoft don’t say is how many they had available to start with, they have probably been more conservative with the numbers that with the 1st gen devices so it doesn’t really mean much but still it’s good to have positive noises coming from Microsoft.

In the UK none of the 2nd gen devices are sold out yet and you can only get the black Type Cover 2 anyway. As we discussed on the podcast this week I despite the bad press I really like my Surface RT and I am looking forward to trying the Surface 2. You can pre-order from the Microsoft Store.

You may have heard that the pre-order stock of the Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition, Type Cover 2 in Purple and Black, and Touch Cover 2 has sold out in the U.S. It also looks like pre-order stock of the Surface 2 (64GB) and Surface Pro 2 (256 GB and 512GB) are close to selling out. We’re pretty happy about this of course given we just unveiled Surface 2, Surface Pro 2 and the new accessories to the world only a week or so ago.
