Last weekend I spent more than an hour looking for my Sons Android phone which fell out of his pocket while riding his bike. As I was trudging along I was cursing that his phone didn’t have something like Apple’s Find My Phone especially as he had left the ringer on silent! That shouldn’t be problem in the future, Google have announced Android Device Manager a service for Android devices that will enable you to locate them on a map and ring them at maximum volume even if the phone is on silent. It looks like it will work very much like Apple’s Find My Phone and Microsoft have the same features for Windows Phone.

You can also remotely wipe the device if it really is lost. The service will be available later this month for Android devices running Android 2.2 and higher. After last weekend all I can say is that it’s about time!
