Android version of BBC iPlayer update improves video quality on the Nexus 7

BBC iPlayer on a Nexus 7 tablet

The BBC have released an update for the Android version of the BBC iPlayer app. The update fixes crashing issues and other minor bugs but the main feature of the update seems to be a video quality improvement for the Nexus 7 tablet.

I tried it before updating and then after the update and it does seem like the video playback is smoother and looks much better. The BBC say they are also planning to improve video quality on other devices as well as working on a download option like the iOS version.

The app is free from Google Play

What’s in this version:

Included in this release:
· We’ve dramatically improved video quality on the Nexus 7.
· Our previous release caused some devices to crash…good news, we’ve fixed this!
· As always we keep working through those nusiance bugs, this release contains numerous fixes.
We plan to up the video quality further on more devices very soon and the team continue to work hard on a mobile downloads feature.
We always welcome feedback so tweet away! – @bbciplayer
