MediaMonkey Windows app

When it comes to managing large libraries of music with Windows in the past I have used a desktop program called  MediaMonkey. MediaMonkey has just been released for the Windows Store and works with Windows RT as well as Windows 8.

The app is designed for people serious about their music and supports mp3, m4a, ogg, flac and WMA and has volume levelling and equalisation. One of the main uses of the app in the past has been as a tool for tagging and managing music collections and you can do exactly this in the new MediaMonkey app. Also included is a UPNP/DLNA client that will stream from a DLNA/UPNP server. You can’t push content to the app but you can browse content on other DLNA servers.

The app also has a wifi syncing option where you can sync it with a desktop version of MediaMoney so if you are already using MediaMonkey on a desktop PC you can get it to sync with your tablet or laptop via wifi. The option is an in-app purchase and there is a 7 day trial so you can give it a try before you buy.

The app is free from the Windows Store and I have set it up on my Surface and it makes a very good alternative to the Xbox Music app.
