What’s New in Version 2.6

Version 2.6 is a mandatory update of the 4oD app. It brings support for iPhone 5 and iOS6 and the addition of a settings area, which allows users to more easily sign in and out.

This update now requires you to register and log in to view our brilliant back-catalogue of archive content, bringing it in line with 4oD on channel4.com.

4oD is a free app, and our content is free to watch because we are an advertiser-funded broadcaster. As a government-owned, not-for-profit organisation, the revenue we make from advertising doesn’t go to shareholders, it goes back into making more programmes.

Understanding our viewers with respect to their gender and age gives us data on the demographic of people who watch certain programmes. This helps inform crucial scheduling and commissioning decisions – meaning we can make more of the shows you love.

And yes, being a commercial broadcaster means we need to show ads. By knowing a little more about who is watching and what they’re watching, we’re able to attract advertising that is more targeted and thus more valuable. More value to Channel 4 means more money to create more content for you to enjoy.
