Bekin have announced they are acquiring the Linksys brand from Cisco. The deal will see Cisco exiting the consumer business completely as it closed down the Flip Camera unit a couple of years ago. Belkin say they plan to keep the Linksys brand and offer support for Linksys products.

Belkin intends to maintain the Linksys brand and will offer support for Linksys products as part of this transaction. All valid warranties will be honored by Belkin for current and future Linksys products. After the transaction closes, Belkin will account for approximately 30 percent of the U.S. retail home and small business networking market.

I met up with Linksys at CES (you can hear Mike Dunn from Linksys on show 386) and they had big plans for the network products over the next year so hopefully that won’t change. Especially for Windows Media Center users I used a picture of the Linksys DMA2200 Windows Media Center extender, now discontinued and not compatible with Windows 8 Media Center.
