The next couple of weeks are going to be one of the biggest for Microsoft in some time. Windows 8, Microsoft Surface and Windows Phone 8 all get released in the next two weeks. The week kicks off with Skype announcing Skype for Windows 8 which has a completely new UI. In a video on the Skype blog you can see the new Windows 8 Skype UI which as you would expect is very Windows 8 styled.

In Windows 8 Skype runs in the background “without draining your battery” and is a Windows 8 store app so it has live tile showing notifications and you can snap Skype to the side of the screen. Skype is also part of the People app enabling you to have all your contacts in one place and pin contacts to the start screen.

Skype for Windows 8 will be available from October 26th in the Windows 8 store.
