Waterstones are to sell Amazon’s Kindle ebook reader in it’s refurbished stores.  At first glance it seems a bit of a strange move as Amazon seem to be one of the companies helping kill sales of books at Waterstones but with it’s refurbished stores Waterstones are dedicating areas for ebooks and will have free wifi and coffee shops making it a place where you go and browse real books as well as ebooks. Last year Waterstones said there were going to develop their own brand of eBook reader but that looks like it’s been scrapped now.

Maybe it will work, while I don’t visit Waterstones that often anymore I do remember the buzz seeing my Media Center book on sale in there and if they make it a nice location for browsing it could be a successes.

James Daunt MD of Waterstones told the BBC “The best digital readers, the Kindle family, will be married to the singular pleasures of browsing a curated bookshop.”
