Rumours Roundup for December 11th

Each week I am going to collect together some of the tech rumours that caught my eye over the last 7 days.

The stories of a TV being developed by Apple don’t seem to be going away, even if they don’t make much sense. CultofMac say that the TV will be 55″ and that could feature a OLED screen:

Sources at a major Japanese company who are involved in manufacturing the TV believe that the 55” model will compete with new Smart TVs from Samsung and LG that will have new processors built in while offering a combination of OLED display, as well as new Super HD TV technology from LG.

On the other hand Macrumours say that the Apple TV could actually just be a big iMac

Blair envisions the company pushing the largest screen sizes of the iMac toward the TV market by integrating Apple TV and iCloud features into a slimmer all-in-one PC with TV capabilities. 

“We think this makes sense because while we typically think about the newest TV’s hanging on the wall in large form factors, Apple could effectively start with what they already have on the manufacturing line and slowly push their offering from 27 inches and scale up from there to 32 inches and then move on to the 42, 50 and 55 inch market,” he writes. “In short, we believe the initial Apple TV is their iMac computer that can function as a TV, over the iCloud platform.”

On the Windows side of things WinRumours are reporting that the original Zune’s squirting feature could be back:

Microsoft may be preparing to resurrect its Zune “squirting” feature across Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox.The squirting feature was originally used in the first generation Zune 30 devices, released in 2006. The feature allowed Zune devices to transfer tracks to each other over Wi-Fi. LiveSide reports that the feature might be making a comeback with Windows 8 and future generations of Windows Phone.

Making file transfers between devices would be a welcome feature as even now with many different ways we can send files around lots of people still resort to emailing files.

Finally this week an iPad 3 rumour. AppleInsider are report that the next iPad will be the same thickness as the current device but have a high res Retina Display:

Apple’s third-generation iPad will be slightly thicker than the iPad 2, but will have the same 9.7-inch screen size, and will continue to support the magnetic Smart Cover, according to a new report. One reason for a thicker frame on the third-generation iPad could be the components necessary to include a high-resolution Retina Display

I am sure as we build up to the next iPad launch there will be a ton of rumours some accurate but most will be way of the mark.
