There have been lots of rumours that Apple may develop a true Apple TV and in Water Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography it’s revealed that there could be a full fledged Apple TV on the way. The Washington Post reviewed the biography and picked out a section on the future of TV

Isaacson said “€œHe very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant,”€

I’™d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,

€˜It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.

€˜It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it

While being a nice little device the Apple TV has failed to take the market by storm but Apple does excel in taking existing technology and packaging it up in a way that is simple for consumers and at the moment there is no simple solution for bringing internet content, local content and TV in a TV that doesn’t involve an extra box like the Xbox 360.

The potential is there, Apple already make great displays and with iOS powering the device combined with an app store I could see them selling well, ironically the Apple TV is one of the few devices on the market that does’t actually do live TV which would need to be addressed before a TV goes on sale.

The Wall Street Journal things Apple could launch a TV by the end of 2012.
