The next version of Windows Phone coded named “Mango” has been released to manufacturing. The new version adds lots of features missing from Windows Phone including twitter support and IE9. It will be fascinating to see how long it takes to get in the hands of users considering it took months to get NoDo out to some users.

Details from the Windows Team Blog

I wanted to drop into the Windows Phone Blog briefly to update you on an important milestone. Earlier this morning, the Windows Phone development team officially signed off on the release to manufacturing (RTM) build of “Mango” – the latest version of the Windows Phone operating system. This marks the point in the development process where we hand code to our handset and mobile operator partners to optimize Mango for their specific phone and network configurations. Here on the Windows Phone team, we now turn to preparing for the update process. The Mango update for current Windows Phone handsets will be ready this fall, and of course will come pre-installed on new Windows Phones.

  1. I wonder how long it will take for the hardware to catch up with 3D screen, dual core CPU, 3D imagae capture, 1080p record and playback? Whi this is available on a Windows Phone, then I’ll consider upgrading my HD2.

    1. I’m really not interested in 3D so I hope they don’t bother with it on such a small device but then again I’m a grumpy old man that doesn’t want a 3D TV either. 😀

I also feel that Windows Phone devices don’t need dual-core CPU’s as the UI is already fluid and smooth and the only other reason to need dual-core is for true multitasking which would drain the battery anyway. Microsoft is pushing Windows Phone as being all about the experience and that includes getting the maximum out of battery life as well as ensuring the OS runs smoothly and for me the current hardware specs provide that.

I upgraded from a HD2 to my Omnia 7 and there is no way I’d go back now. Have you had the chance to use one of the WP devices?

I would completely agree with regards the 1080p though as mobile devices need to keep improving the current cameras.
