Microsoft looking to have an single OS for PCs, tablets, Phones and the TV oh and drop the Windows name as well? This is what a post on thisismynext.com is saying.  The report comes from Microsoft talking at their Worldwide Partner Conference this week saying that Microsoft plan to have  “coherence and consistency” across different devices including the Xbox and the they will have a single ecosystem for PCs, Phones, tablets and the TV

The report also says that Microsoft plans to “harmonize” PCs, Windows Phone and the Xbox operating systems. So the next gen console would run a future version of Windows and Microsoft may be ditching the Windows name at that point in the future and rebrand under the unified OS.

Our sources also tell us that Microsoft is seriously considering ditching the “Windows” brand name in favor of something new when all this goes down. The idea is to rebrand this new super-OS with something that better fits with Redmond’s vision of the future

With Windows 8 running on ARM I can see Microsoft putting Windows on to phones and maybe even a future Xbox console but getting rid of the Windows name is something I find hard to believe. Microsoft have tried many times to put Windows on devices other than PCs with limited success but maybe this time they are on to something with the Metro UI. What do you think? Is it possible?

  1. Microsoft and “coherence and consistency” with consumer products? Have to see it to believe it!
