CyberLink today launched a new and improved version of PowerDVD. PowerDVD 11 has a host of new features and having played with a pre-release version I can say that the Media Center experience (known as Cinema Mode) although still not a fully integrated experience, seems much smoother. There are numerous other improvements and, although I am yet to try them in anger, the introduction of the new iOS and Android Remote Apps looks useful. There are still some things I dislike, in particular the way PowerDVD insists on grabbing all the AutoPlay handlers for media it can process, but generally this seems to be really good release. One feature I do like is that you can now play DLNA hosted content and also video from online sites like YouTube in PowerDVD with the full capabilities of its TruTheater upscaling technology.

I met with CyberLink Europe a few weeks back and recorded a really good interview covering their new product range. Hopefully this will be in next week’s show.

Press Release:

CyberLink Launches PowerDVD 11 with New iPhone and Android Apps

Playback Blu-Ray discs, DVDs, video files, music and photos to take your entertainment experience beyond your PC; with new apps for your iPhone, iPad and Android devices now included.

London, April 21, 2011 CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW)today released PowerDVD 11, the latest version of the award-winning media playback software for PCs. PowerDVD 11 introduces a multitude of new features, including support to playback and transfer content from your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phone or slate device to your PC. Additionally, for smart device content, PowerDVD now facilitates the playback of remote media from sources such as DLNA servers and social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr and YouTube.
