Hear we go again, CES is coming and there are Microsoft Tablet rumours again. Last year there were rumours that Steve Ballmer would be showing off a Windows 7 Tablet, it turned out to be HP’s rather disappointing Windows 7 Slate. This time the rumours are that Microsoft will once again show off Windows 7 Tablets, The New York Times are reporting that tablets from Dell, Samsung and others will shown off as Microsoft try and show that they have a competitor for the iPad

There are also reports of Windows 8 being shown off, I think its more likely to be glimpse of the tablet features of Windows 8 rather than a full demo, Microsoft certainly keeping the next version of Windows under wraps for now.

According to The New York Times, Microsoft is set to announce tablets from Dell, Samsung and other hardware manufacturers. One of the most exciting rumors we’ve read is that at least one of these tablets will feature a slide-out physical keyboard — that means this tablet won’t be just a bright, shiny, app-laden toy for content consumption; it’ll also be a useful tool for content creation and productivity.

Another cool rumor is that Microsoft is planning on an open app ecosystem for its tablet lineup; it will be less like the iPad’s App Store and more like the Android ecosystem, where you can choose to download any application from any manufacturer via the web.

  1. When wil MS learn – “the most exciting rumors we’ve read is that at least one of these tablets will feature a slide-out physical keyboard”…

The whole reason the iPad is successful is that it is not a hybrid device, it’s a pure touch device – if I want a physical keyboard I use my laptop or netbook!!!
